St Lucia
General Information
St Lucia is surrounded by an estuary that lies at the southernmost entrance to the iSimangaliso Wetland Park and is home to five recognisable ecosystems and includes swamps, lake systems, coral reefs, beaches, wetlands, woodlands and coastal forests. The town too lies in the heart of unspoilt beauty with an abundance of wild life. Portions of this area have been a game reserve since as early as 1895.
iSimangaliso is an enclave within the World Heritage Site of ISimangaliso and presents the entire range of accommodation options - from back-packer to ultra- luxury - and while the approach from Mtubatuba is breath-taking, nothing compares to views of the surrounding magic from the village itself. A particular nearby attraction to Isimangaliso is the Crocodile Centre that features a breeding programmed for two endangered African species - the dwarf and long-snout crocodile. Mission Rocks is a popular outdoor barbeque spot some 15kms north of St Lucia village.
Voted "World's Leading Honeymoon Destination" eight times by the World Travel Awards, the tropical island paradise of Saint Lucia is the perfect haven for romance, adventure and home to some of nature's most precious natural beauties. Be prepared to stimulate your senses surrounded by unblemished landscapes and postcard perfect scenery.
St Lucia’s western shores of Lake St Lucia are rich in ancient marine fossils and Research indicates that this area started forming approximately 140 000 000 years ago
